GCSE exams have returned for the first time in more than two years post-Covid 19.

Here, in this Radio Solent Breakfast show interview with Steve Harris, Atlantic Academy‘s Lesley Bishop discusses the weeks of preparation devoted to making sure her Year 11 students will be able to do their best.

Mrs Bishop also reveals how proud she and Melissa Heppell, Atlantic’s joint principal, are to have been nominated for Secondary School of the Year in this year’s prestigious TES awards.

The all-through school is also celebrating a stunning Ofsted report which saw Atlantic given a ‘Good’ rating for its first inspection.

Five years ago the school, formerly known as Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy (IPACA), was judged to be ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted, ranking at the bottom of a government league table of similar schools nationally.

The school was taken over by Aspirations Academies Trust and re-named Atlantic Academy Portland in 2017.

Atlantic’s Ofsted report noted: “This is an all-through school that has made a remarkable turnaround in a few years, during building works and the Covid-19 pandemic. Leaders have very high expectations and have been relentless in their pursuit of these. They’re ambitious for pupils, who are responding well to the goals set.”
