Resilience, positivity, commitment & support leads to impressive GCSE & A-level results for Space Studio WL students

Key factors that combined to help students at Space Studio West London achieve their best-ever GCSE and A-level results. 

It is the second year running Year 11 and Year 13 students did not sit formal national exams to acquire their final grades.

Covid chaos saw students awarded their final marks based on teacher assessments with a range of evidence used from mock exams, coursework and other work completed during the year, such as essays or in-class tests.

An impressive 47% of our A-level candidates were over the moon to achieve a grade A* or A. Some 69% scored A* to B and 89% achieved grades A* to C. 

Andy Morgan, Principal of Space Studio West London, a STEM-focused school, is delighted with the results achieved.  

He said: ”I am really happy that as a school we have helped support the students through two disruptive years of education and they are now able to move to the next stage of their education with the results that they deserve. I am very proud of how the students coped during the lockdown and kept working using the virtual lessons and resources provided by their teachers. 

”I am delighted that the work the whole teaching staff put into providing accurate assessments of the work the students are capable of has resulted with this excellent set of results.”

Student Aysha Cheema, 18, achieved A* Psychology, A* Chemistry and an A for Biology.  She will now go on to study Aerospace Engineering at Queen Mary University. Aysha said: ”I’m delighted with my results. The teachers at the school have helped me on a successful journey.”

Year 11 students also enjoyed impressive GCSE success with 70% achieving a Grade 4 or above in English and Maths. Some 41% scored a Grade 5 or above in English & Maths, 77% scored a Grade 4 or above in Maths and 60% a Grade 5 or above.  

Over 35% of students taking Biology, Physics and Chemistry achieved a grade 7+ or above. Over 70% of students taking these subjects scored a a Grade 5 or above. 

Principal Mr Morgan said:  ‘’This is exactly what the students deserve. They
have coped magnificently during the pandemic showing great resilience and
positivity in very difficult circumstances.’’
He also thanked the staff at the school: ”A huge thank you to the staff for the support they gave to the students over the last two years , keeping them motivated and safe during lockdown and on return, providing them with excellent lessons in person or remotely and providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability . It really has been a team effort.’’
